Boutique Fitness - Nutrition

When it comes to reaching your goals it’s not only about making sure that your body is prepared and ready for the hard work ahead, you also need to clearly envisage your goals in your mind. In addition, you need to make sure a nutrition programme is in place.

So why is nutrition so important to your training and for you to reach your goals?

When it comes to losing weight, improving your fitness level and lifestyle we will all normally head straight for exercising as a way to achieve this and yes this will get some results and help you feel better, but unfortunately, you can have the best training programme there is, but if your nutrition isn’t right you will never get the results you want.

Nutrition makes up to 75% of the effort required to help you lose weight, improve muscle definition and maintain a healthy body and lifestyle.

That does sound like a big percentage, but it’s not as scary or hard as it may sound. This is why I ask you to fill out food diaries for a couple of weeks, then we sit down and go through them together.

It’s important that you try and lose the word diet, as diets are only temporary, I want to get you on a healthy eating plan to go with your new lifestyle, as this will help you to lose weight and to maintain your healthy weight/size, once you have reached your goal.

When we go through your food diaries we will look at your eating habits the times you eat your meals, portion size, snacking and how balanced your meals are. We will also discuss how you can improve your healthy eating plan; often it just needs tweaking, for example, portion sizes. Our dinner plates have got really big over the last few years, so we tend to fill the food to fit the plate instead of the other way round, an easy solution is to get smaller dinner plates.

With health snacks, we can often eat too many as we think they are healthy therefore we can eat more. Even if the snacks are healthy, consuming too many will have the opposite effect.

We need to eat the right foods as they fuel the body and mind and provide the energy you need to get through the day. This keeps your energy levels up ensures a clear head and most importantly means your training programme is effective.

Getting the right eating plan does take time, just ask yourself though is it worth spending little extra time on yourself planning your food for the week?
